چکیده

Recent XMM-Newton and Chandra observations of the high mass X-ray binary LS 5039 / RX J1826.2-1450 caught the source in a faint X-ray state. In contrast with previous RXTE observations, we fail to detect any evidence of iron line emission. We also fail to detect X-ray pulsations. The X-ray spectrum can be well fitted by a simple powerlaw, slightly harder than in previous observations, and does not require the presence of any additional disk or blackbody component. XMM-Newton data imply an X-ray photoelectric absorption (NH ∼ 7 × 10 21 cm −2) consistent with optical reddening, indicating that no strong local absorption occurs at the time of these observations. We discuss possible source emission mechanisms and hypotheses on the nature of the compact object, giving particular emphasis to the young pulsar scenario.

On the radio emitting high mass X-ray binary LS 5039

We present new optical – near–IR spectroscopic and photometric observations of the newly discovered galactic microquasar LS 5039, which indicate a classification for the mass donor in the system of O6.5V((f)). Optical spectroscopy and photometry shows no variability over a timescale of years, and we find no evidence of modulation by, or emission from the compact companion in these data. However...

Integral Serendipitous Detection of the Gamma-ray Microquasar Ls 5039

LS 5039 is the only X-ray binary persistently detected at TeV energies by the Cherenkov HESS telescope. It is moreover a γ-ray emitter in the GeV and possibly MeV energy ranges. To understand important aspects of jet physics, like the magnetic field content or particle acceleration, and emission processes, such as synchrotron and inverse Comp-ton (IC), a complete modeling of the multiwavelength...

Discovery of two new persistent Be/X-ray pulsar systems

We present RXTE observations of two recently identified massive X-ray binaries. RX J0440.9+4431/BSD 24–491 and RX J1037.5–564/LS 1698 are confirmed as accreting Be/X-ray systems following the discovery of X-ray pulsations, with barycentric pulse periods of 202.5±0.5 s and 860±2 s respectively. The X-ray spectral analysis shows that the energy spectra of the pulsars can be represented by a power...

On the magnetic field and the TeV emitter location in Cygnus X - 1 and LS 5039

Context. Cygnus X-1 and LS 5039 are two X-ray binaries detected at TeV energies. Both sources are compact systems, contain jetlike (radio) structures, and harbor very luminous O stars. The two systems show TeV signal around the superior conjunction of the compact object, when the largest gamma-ray opacities are expected. Aims. We investigate the implications of the TeV detections of Cygnus X-1 ...

The magnetic field and the location of the TeV emitter in Cygnus X - 1 and LS 5039

Context. Cygnus X-1 and LS 5039 are two X-ray binaries observed at TeV energies. Both sources are compact systems, contain jet-like (radio) structures, and harbor very luminous O stars. A TeV signal has been found around the superior conjunction of the compact object in both objects, when the highest gamma-ray opacities are expected. Aims. We investigate the implications of finding TeV emission...
